Hello, my name is
Lutan Ruby Heerlein
Aged 43, nonbinary and living in Duisburg, Germany.
Art has been a companion for all my life. But it began for real as my art teacher in middle school allowed everyone who was interested to spend their breaks in the art room. From then on I would spend all my free time in school there, drawing.
It was him, who saw my complex and detailed pencil drawings and first intruduced me to dip pens and drawing with ink. Even though I was sceptical at first, I quickly learned to love this medium and am still thankful to this day.
Animal people, mythical creatures and Werewolves
quickly became my favorite things to draw. To me they are wilder and primal and in that a special, more direct link to my inner world of emotions and feelings. That way it can express itself in my works.
And so the expression of Emotion is often the topic and main motivation for my art, as this is something I, as autistic person, often struggle with in day to day life.
Some pictures I draw are a spur of the moment thing, a spontaneous and joyful process and for me they are pure celebration of the beauty of colour and form.
Other, more thougt out projects are usually a concious effort to offer an insight into my world. A bridge over a chasm, that would otherwise be hard to cross, if you will.
When working on commissions, I strive to capture the mood and feelings, my custumers wished for and express them in the artwork.
Hopefully I could offer you a little insight into my world and my creative process.
